Clovelly is located approximately 7 kilometres south-east of the CBD in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs in the local government area of Randwick. The suburb is serviced by buses direct to the CBD or alternatively Bondi Junction train station is only a short bus ride away.
There is a variety of architecture in Clovelly from renovated 20’s and 30’s freestanding homes and semis to beachside cottages and architect designed homes. Apartments vary in age from the art deco era to new developments. Freestanding homes and demi-detached houses each make up approximately one quarter of the housing stock while apartments make up the majority of the rest.
Shops and Restaurants
Most of your day to day requirements can be found along Clovelly Road including Foodworks supermarket and the local favourite; Clovelly Hotel. There is also a local RSL. For a larger variety and larger format stores, visit the Royal Randwick Shopping Centre or Westfield at Bondi Junction which includes Myer and David Jones department stores as well as a range of speciality stores.
Schools and Educational Facilities
Clovelly itself only contains St Anthony’s Primary School. Clovelly Public School is actually in neighbouring Waverley. Other neighbouring schools include St Catherine’s School, Waverley Public School, Waverley College and St Clare’s College in Waverley; Emanuel School, Randwick Public School, Coogee Boys Prepatory School, Marcellin College, Our Lady Of The Sacred Heart Primary School, Open High School, St Margaret Marys School, Randwick Girls and Boys High Schools and Claremont College in Randwick; Coogee Public School and St Brigid’s Primary School in Coogee; Bronte Public School in Bronte; Wairoa School in Bondi Beach; Bondi Public School, Montessori East Pre-School and Primary School and Yeshiva College in Bondi; and Moriah War Memorial College in Bondi Junction. The University of New South Wales is also nearby in Kensington.
Recreation and other Amenities
Clovelly has a large ocean pool and sheltered bay that is monitored by Clovelly Surf Life Saving Club volunteers and perfect for families and snorkelling. Neighbouring Gordons Bay is a popular scuba diving destination whilst nearby Bronte and Coogee are preferred surfing locations. Burrows Park contains the Clovelly Bowling and Recreation Club and the adjacent cliff tops offers a sensational panoramic view of the Tasman Sea and the ferries that travel up and down the coast. Other parks in the suburb include Bundock Park, Burnie Park and Vama Park. Coogee is also situated part way along the scenic 6km cliff-top walk from Bondi to Coogee.
Further afield, Randwick Racecourse holds events all year round and Centennial Park offer more recreational and sporting opportunities including running, cycling, roller blading, horseback riding and sporting fields. There are also several gyms to choose from in Coogee, Randwick and Bondi Junction.
