LEICHHARDT, NSW REAL ESTATE BUYERS AGENTS

    Location and Transport Links

Leichhardt is located approximately 5 kilometres south-west of the CBD in Sydney’s Inner West in the local government area of Leichhardt. The suburb has access to four light rail stations, which provide easy access to Central Station and Dulwich Hill via Lewisham. An extension to Circular Quay, Randwick and Kingsford will also be operational in 2019. Buses also service the area and travel to the CBD in around 20 minutes. Westconnex will also service Leichhardt once complete and greatly reduce travel times to Parramatta and South-western Sydney via the airport.

    Property types

Leichhardt is fortunate to have many remaining Victorian terraces homes and terrace houses. There are also apartments sprinkled throughout the suburb including warehouses that have been converted into trendy apartments, particularly around the Booth Street shops. Annandale also has a small waterfront and modern townhouses have recently been constructed in that area that take in views of the Anzac and Sydney Harbour Bridges

    Shops and Restaurants

Leichhardt’s shops are mainly clustered on and around Norton Street between Parramatta Road and Allen Street. Norton Plaza has a variety of boutique shops and is anchored by Coles supermarket. Local pubs include PJ’s, The Leichhardt and the Royal. The MarketPlace is Leichhardt’s second shopping centre and includes Woolworths supermarket. There are also restaurants and bars in the vicinity including Gladstone Park Hotel. Due to its Italian heritage, Italian restaurants such as Little Sicily and Grappa are still popular in Leichhardt

    Schools and Educational Facilities

Leichhardt has an excellent selection of local primary schools for parents to choose from depending on their location and preference for public or private including Leichhardt Public School, Kegworth Public School, Orange Grove Public School and St Columbas Primary School. Nearby secondary schools include Eileen O’Connor Catholic College in Lewisham and Fort Street High School in Petersham. Combined primary/secondary schools include Newington College (Stanmore), Bridge Road School (Camperdown) and Christian Brothers School (Lewisham).

    Recreation and other Amenities

Palace Cinema in Norton Street, Leichhardt plays a mixture of mainstream as well as art-house movies and each year hosts the Italian, French and Spanish film festivals. Being a family area, pets are popular and there are several off-leash dog parks around Leichhardt (see the council website for permitted areas). Just across Canal Road in Richard Murden Reserve there are free public tennis courts. Outdoor fitness is popular in Leichhardt and several parks permit commercial fitness training. There is also a good selection of traditional gyms and fitness centres.

    Why people live in Leichhardt?

Relative affordability compared to neighbouring suburbs, proximity to the CBD and great cuisine including Italian, Greek, and Chinese.
