    Surry Hills is located approximately 2 kilometres south of the CBD in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs in the local government area of Sydney. Surry Hills is adjacent to Central Station, which provides quick access to the CBD and is the metropolitan Sydney hub for the city’s rail services including to the Blue Mountains.

    Property types

    Apartments make up almost two thirds of the dwellings in Surry Hills while semi-detached homes such as Victorian terraces make up another quarter. Apartments vary dramatically in style and size from modern complexes to art deco blocks to house and warehouse conversions.

    Surry Hills offers two primary schools; Bourke Street Public School and Crown Street Public School. In addition, there is an excellent selection of schools in nearby suburbs including SCEGGS Darlinghurst, Sydney Grammar School in Darlinghurst, Sydney Boys and Girls High Schools in Moore Park, St Mary’s Cathedral College, Macquarie Grammar School and St Andrew’s Cathedral School in Sydney CBD, International Grammar School in Ultimo, Key College in Redfern and Taylors College in Waterloo. There are also a number of primary and pre-schools in the area. Nearby tertiary institutions include Australian Pacific College in Sydney (English and business courses for international students), Sydney TAFE in Ultimo and the University of Sydney.

    Recreation and other Amenities

    There are a number of yoga studios, tennis courts and fitness centres in Surry Hills including Hiscoes Fitness Centre which also offers squash courts. In addition, Prince Alfred Park Pool offers a state of the art 50m lap pool. The suburb borders Moore Park which includes Moore Park Golf Club, Moore Park Stables and Hoyts Cinema in the Entertainment Quarter. Centennial Park is also within walking distance and is perfect for picnics, scenic walks, running, cycling, rollerblading, field sports and outdoor movies at the Moonlight Cinema.
