Menai is located 29 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire.

The south west suburb of Menai ist 29km from the centre of Sydney. Menai is a world removed from the rest of Sydney but still has access to all of its advantages. It’s an hour between both Wollongong to the south and Sydney to the north and seems to draw both home buyers and renters looking for quietness and seclusion. The lower price point makes in attractive proposition for investors and home buyers.
Rocksalt Tapas Bar on Allison Cres is a standout with locals with great cocktails and live music. Club central Menai is beautifully renovated modern club serving the usual fare. If you’re just after a quick coffee try steam brothers on Carter Road or Cafe Vostro at the local Menai Market place which is also home to the usual local shops, Banks and Woolworths.
The Menai Hawks Football club is the largest sporting club in the area with 1,200 members playing soccer every weekend at Buckle Reserve Menai. An indoor sporting complex is opposite the Menai Marketplace shopping centre with its own gym and swimming pool with swim schools running most of the year. Menai is also home to the Menai Junior Rugby League Football Club. Menai is also home to the Menai Dragons basketball association. The local council operates the Menai Indoor Sports Centre.
Menai's schools include Menai Primary, Aquinas College and Holy Family Primary School [Catholic]. Menai High School is not in Menai, but in Illawong.
Price growth in recent years hasn’t happened in Menai with prices retreating slightly from 2017 to now. Residex notes Only 0.32% of properties in the suburb are currently on the market which shows there is very limited stock available. Growth has been consistently healthy for houses averaging at 9.4% p.a and units achieving 9.3% for the last 10 years though so perhaps the market is poised for growth.
Residex notes the median house price now sits at around $1.05m. Around $1m to $1.2m will buy you a 3–4-bedroom 1-2 bathroom fully detached, on around 500m2 without views. Units vary significantly depending on the age of the building number in the block and proximity to amenities and views.
