Narrabeen is on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, 23km north-east of Sydney CBD. Narrabeen is in the local government area of Warringah Council and bus services operate frequently in peak periods to the city. The journey to the CBD takes approximately 45 minutes by car.
Narrabeen offers mixed property – from cosy beachside weatherboard cottages to substantial private residencies. Apartments account for 67% of residential dwellings. Although there are some boutique developments popping up occasionally, the majority of apartments were built during the 1950’s – 1980’s. Semi detached houses also account for 16% of housing in the suburb, almost equal to the number of freestanding houses.
Narrabeen is home to many restaurants ranging from Thai, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican and Mediterranean as well as several cafés. The local pub is the famous Sands Hotel which has recently had a make-over. The shopping precinct includes Woolworths and a few butchers, bakeries and grocery stores. You will also find a few up-market clothing boutiques and home ware stores. There is a larger shopping mall at Warriewood Square, about 5 minutes’ drive away and local cinemas at Collaroy and Warriewood.
For primary school education there is North Narrabeen Public, Narrabeen Lakes Public & St Josephs, a Catholic school. Brookvale TAFE is a 15 minute drive away and Narrabeen Sports High is also located here. There are many day care centres and preschools for the young ones.
There is a huge range of outdoor areas in Narrabeen. There are four beaches along the Narrabeen stretch of beach, North Narrabeen, Narrabeen, South Narrabeen and Collaroy Beach, all of these have good surf breaks. There is also the beautiful Narrabeen Lagoon and Lake where you will find plenty of kayakers. Narrabeen also has several gyms and the Academy of Sport s located here which offers a large range of organised sport and leisure activities for children and adults. You will also find many reserves and ovals.
Narrabeen offers a very desirable, relaxed beachside lifestyle. Narrabeen Beach has a world famous surf break while the Narrabeen Lakes provides an outdoor playground for kayaks, sailing boats and a lovely 12km walking track all the way around the lake. These are both very unique features that not many other beach suburbs in Sydney can offer.
