Fairlight is located on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, 10 kilometres north east of the CBD. Fairlight is in the local government area of Manly and is a short walk down the hill to Manly Wharf. Regular (30 minute) and fast (17 minute) ferries operate frequent services to Circular Quay from the Wharf. If you’d prefer to catch the bus, morning express busses travel along Sydney Road to the CBD.
Apartments make up the majority (around 50%) of properties in Fairlight and suit the predominant demographic in the area – maturing and established independence. Many of the apartment blocks are character Federation and Art Deco buildings, however there are also a number of 70’s towers and modern, medium rise security complexes. Houses make up a further 25% and semi-detached and other properties make up the remaining quarter.
Fairlight has a local shopping village that includes all the essentials including Foodworks supermarket, a butcher, pharmacy, doctor, bottle shop, hair salon, vet and cafés. If you need more than the essentials, The Corso in Manly and Stockland shopping centre in Balgowlah are only a short 1km walk away. Warringah Mall is less than 10 minutes’ drive away and is currently being expanded to offer more than 340 stores in total.
There are no schools in Fairlight itself, although it does have a couple of child care options. Manly West Public School is just around the corner in Balgowlah or St Mary’s School in Manly offers a Catholic Primary School alternative. Other schools in Manly include Royal Far West School, which caters primary and secondary children with disabilities and St Paul’s Catholic College (for secondary boys) and Stella Maris College (for secondary girls). Northern Beaches Secondary College (with separate campuses for boys and girls in Balgowlah and Manly Vale respectively) is also very well regarded.
Fairlight has a small beach with an ocean pool that’s popular with locals. If you continue west along the foreshore, there is also a very scenic and popular walking path that extends all the way from Manly to the Spit Bridge. Alternatively, if you walk east it’s a 15 minute walk to Manly Beach. Manly Golf Course is positioned at the north end of the suburb and is open to members only. LM Graham Reserve is next to the golf course and features a full size outdoor basketball court and cricket nets and is also a popular meeting place for dog walkers. The Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Swim Centre is currently undergoing a renovation and will shortly feature an indoor 25m pool, children’s pool, spa pool, sauna, steam room, fitness centre and crèche in addition to the existing 25m and 50m outdoor pools.
Fairlight is a family friendly location with an emphasis on lifestyle. It’s within walking distance to multiple beaches, but also offers an easy daily commute to the CBD via ferry or bus. Many properties also have stunning harbour views.
