Rozelle 2039, NSW
Location and Transport Links
Rozelle is a waterfront suburb just 4 kilometres west of the CBD in Sydney’s Inner West. Busses travel directly to Martin Place in around 15 minutes. Light rail extends from Dulwich Hill to Central Station via Rozelle Bay station.
Terrace houses, weatherboard cottages and Victorian freestanding brick houses are popular in Rozelle. Apartments are also gathering popularity in Rozelle as property prices march ever higher and now make up around one third of properties in the suburb. They range in style from converted warehouses to 70’s blocks with undercroft parking to modern security complexes.
Shops and Restaurants
The main shopping strip on Darling Street offers a vast choice of shops, inviting cafés, restaurants and old world pubs. Dining options generally have a casual atmosphere. Popular pubs on Victoria Road and its surrounding streets include 3 Weeds, The Welcome Irish pub and the Ruby L’otel. Market goers are spoilt for choice with Rozelle Markets every Saturday and Sunday at Rozelle Public School and the Organic Food Markets in Lilyfield and the Balmain Markets (the third oldest in Sydney) every Saturday. If you want to spoil yourself or someone else though, visit Adriano Zumbo’s Patisserie or Belle Fleur Fine Chocolates. In years to come, The Bays Precinct will be rejuvenated into a thriving community with new homes, offices and waterfront parks.
Schools and Educational Facilities
Rozelle schools include Rozelle Public School and Sydney Secondary College (Balmain Campus). Sydney Secondary College also has another campus in nearby Leichhardt. Rosebank College (secondary Catholic school) is around the corner in Five Dock. Slightly further afield are some of Sydney’s most well regarded schools. Sydney Community College is also in Rozelle while Sydney College of the Arts is in neighbouring Lilyfield.
Recreation and other Amenities
Rozelle residents have excellent access to green space and water views, with O’Connor Reserve, Rozelle Common, Easton Park, King George Park and Bridgewater Park. The latter two are both on the waterfront and have barbeque facilities with picnic tables, while King George Park has a playground and toilet facilities and Bridgewater Park is a designated off-leash dog area (unless a sporting event is taking place). The ‘Bay Run’ is popular with locals and loops around Iron Cove. Swimmers have a choice between Leichhardt Aquatic Centre in Leichhardt Park and Dawn Fraser Baths in Balmain, which are both positioned on the waterfront and look west for fantastic sunsets. Nearby sporting clubs include Birchgrove Tennis Club, Balmain Sailing Club, Balmain and Leichhardt Rowing Clubs and Gladstone Park and Balmain Bowling Clubs.
