Buyer's Brief: To buy a home in Sydney to be close to children
After retiring we sold our home in Brisbane and moved to Sydney to be closer to our children and grandchildren. We were renting and trying to find a suitable home in Gymea Bay within our budget but found this to be very frustrating, missing out at auctions and not acting quickly enough to secure a property. A local sales agent recommended we speak to a buyers agent for assistance and although hesitant we were willing to try anything.

Patricia & Alf had relocated to Sydney from Brisbane and although they had family in the Sutherland Shire they were finding it very difficult to find the right property, mainly because the stock levels were low and the market was moving quickly. The process had become frustrating and they quickly realised that the sellers had the upper hand in the transaction and agents were being swamped by buyers, the reality was that no one was looking after their interests and the dynamics of the Sydney market was overwhelming them. The first property they really liked was listed for auction – a lovely modern home that met their needs. We moved quickly and arranged a building inspection prior to making an offer and fortunately I was at the property when it was being done. Keeping in mind this is a family suburb with a median price over $1.5 million, I was shocked to find the neighbours were a group of young adults playing loud heavy metal music and cleaning up bottles from the party the previous night…and this was mid week!
A decision was made by the clients to continue looking and not long after that we found a beautiful home only 5 years old in the same suburb (and the neighbours were lovely!). This property was a also being sold by auction however we negotiated a great result for the clients and secured it within the first few days it was on the market avoiding the auction process. Very happy to assist such lovely clients and glad we also helped them avoid a situation that could have led to many years of frustration & loud music!
