It is part of the Warringah local government area. Buses are the primary form of public transport for the suburb however some residents also choose to utilise the scenic Manly ferry to Circular Quay or the fast ferry that travels to Darling Harbour, Pyrmont Bay, Kirribilli and Watsons Bay as well as Circular Quay. The E36 express bus travels from Curl Curl to Manly Wharf in the morning peak hour and connects with ferry services departing for circular quay (and vice versa in the afternoon).
Two thirds of properties in Curl Curl are detached houses. They comprise a mix of post World War II brick houses, weatherboard beach houses and modern double storey homes capturing ocean views and often with pools. Apartments make up another 15% and are of a similar age while the remainder are semi-detached houses and duplexes.
Penny Lane Café is well regarded by the locals. Cooh Organic Café in North Curl Curl is also very popular and can be difficult to get a table. There are a variety of restaurants in North Curl Curl, Freshwater and Manly. The Harbord Beach Hotel in neighbouring Freshwater is always popular and The Harbord Diggers Club (also in Freshwater) has fantastic views along the Northern Beaches and will shortly be redeveloped to offer a brand new hospitality precinct. Warringah Mall is less than 10 minutes’ drive away and is currently being expanded to offer more than 340 stores in total.
The local primary school is Curl Curl North Public School. Northern Beaches Secondary College has campuses in North Curl Curl (academically selective) and Freshwater (senior students only). Nearby independent schools for both primary and secondary students include St Augustine’s College (for boys) in Brookvale, St Luke’s Grammar School in Dee Why and Oxford Falls Grammar School in Oxford Falls.
Due to the beach lifestyle, outdoor activities are very popular such as walking and running along the purpose built coastal paths, cycling, soccer, cricket and much more. It’s beach is relatively quiet compared to Manly and there are ocean pools at both the south and north ends. Golfing fans are spoilt for choice with Long Reef, Balgowlah, Manly, Warringah and Wakehurst Golf Clubs all within short driving distance. Personal Training is quite popular and there is a large selection of gyms in Brookvale and Dee Why. A new fitness and aquatic centre will also be available at the Harbord Diggers once the redevelopment is completed.
Curl Curl is a relaxed beachside suburb that is still close to the CBD yet relatively affordable compared to neighbouring Freshwater and Queenscliff (although this everyone realises this). It has all the shops you could want at its doorstep, yet maintains the quiet, residential atmosphere and would be a great place to bring up a family.
