Marrickville Organic Markets
The Marrickville Markets, a landmark of Sydney's inner west and a hotspot for foodies, draw visitors from all across Sydney. The market, which is open from 9 am to 3 pm on Sundays, specializes in organic food and environmentally friendly products. Jumping castles, pony rides, and (of course) babycinos are on hand to keep the kids occupied during the Sunday shopping event at the Addison Road Centre in Marrickville.
Rozelle Collectors Markets
The Rozelle Collector Market, an outdoor market hosted on the campus of Rozelle Public School, is teeming with vintage and used goods. While you shop here, you can take in local performers and look at clothing, art, music, and collectibles. Furthermore included are artisan suppliers.
The Princes Highway, Liverpool Road (Hume Highway), City West Link, Parramatta Road, the Bankstown, Illawarra, and Inner West railway lines, as well as the Sydney Metro light rail, all provide access to the Inner West Council area.
The Inner West is a melting pot of cultures and provides some of the most interesting gems Sydney has to offer. These gems include great people, great food, great houses and apartments, and that all important great community feel. Sydney’s Inner West region has plenty of character when compared to the ubiquitous picket fence of outer suburbia. Its density is higher and so is the energy, but that means that it has what suburbs want most - something for just about everyone.
The Inner West consists of approximately 54 suburbs, from Glebe across to Homebush and down to Tempe. As it covers such a large area, there is tremendous diversity between suburbs. Some continue to undergo gentrification and have plans for high rise apartments. On the other hand, those who like to preserve a small part of Australia's past (while still enjoying modern amenities) may enjoy areas that maintain their heritage listed properties and local village shops.

The Inner West property market is often hotly contested and records the highest auction clearance rates in Sydney. The driving force behind this trend is the fierce competition between serious real estate investors and home buyers looking for their dream family home.

The keys to the Inner West’s appeal are its proximity to Sydney’s CBD, relative affordability compared to the Eastern Suburbs, walkability, and café culture. The wide selection of beautiful period terraces, cottages, apartments and larger homes are also major drawcards. Many properties have been renovated over the years to give the area a modern feel; however, you can still find the odd original period home if you look hard enough.
Other value adding options for houses include adding a second level, utilising attic space or changing the floorplan to create a more desirable open plan layout with a lounge room opening up to the rear yard by adding a rear extension.
The median house price in Sydney’s Inner West grew 22% to $2.1 million in 2021 according to Domain, however real estate prices vary significantly between suburbs. Around $2.25 million will buy you an average four-bedroom house in Marrickville, while you will need more than $3.2 million for a four-bedroom house in Haberfield and closer to $3.8 million in Birchgrove.
Apartments range from charming boutique Art Deco blocks and converted mansions to modern complexes and high rises with amenities such as pools, gyms, theatres and convenience stores at your doorstep.
Apartments in the Inner West tend to be more popular than houses. The reason simply is that they offer a relatively affordable entry point to the real estate market. Apartments also offer closer proximity to shops and public transport than houses, which makes them an attractive option for buyers who aren’t quite ready to make a more significant property investment.
In terms of price, two-bedroom apartments sell for around $800,000 in Ashfield while apartments in modern complexes and sought-after converted warehouses in Camperdown sell for upwards of $1.5 million.
It’s worth noting that prices for apartments and houses have increased as the market switches from favouring buyers to favouring vendors. Most properties in the Inner West are positioned within walking distance of shops and transport links. There are numerous sporting ovals, gyms and fitness centres across the Inner West, so whether you want to play a game of soccer or visit a dog park, you won’t have to venture far from your house.
Much of the Inner West fronts onto Sydney Harbour, from there you’ll find many waterfront walking trails and parks to enjoy. In particular, the ‘Bay Run’ around Iron Cove and the extensive green space around Concord are popular with locals. Other large parks include Victoria Park (encompassing Victoria Park Pool) in Camperdown and the 40-hectare Sydney Park in St Peters.
Water sports are popular in summer and there are several sailing clubs where you can hire a yacht or kayak for the afternoon. Meanwhile, the Palace Theatre in Norton Street is popular on more dreary days.

Our initial hope was to secure a property off market although it soon became clear that there were few opportunities within our budget given the strength of the current market. Rich Harvey has great relationships with the real estate agents and was able to provide us with good advice about which properties were worth offering on and a realistic offer. We were very keen to purchase a property and if we had been viewing on our own we would have felt compelled to make an offer on properties which weren't really suitable just to get on the market. I was never sophisticated in property in my home state of Qld, let alone my new home state of NSW. We hesitated for a long time to get on the property ladder due to our lack of knowledge and fear of making a bad decision. We were so glad to have the knowledge shared by Munro and we felt safe and in good hands the entire time making our home buying experience a great one. In our minds this was going to be a 3 month process - minimum. We acknowledge that we're picky and know what we want. So it's a testament to Munro taking our brief and understanding what we were after that only after our second day of inspections we found a place that ticked all the boxes.
