Location and Transport Links

Double Bay is located approximately 3.5 kilometres east of the CBD in Sydney’s eastern suburbs in the local government area of Woollahra. Double Bay is adjacent to the eastern suburbs train line and is also serviced by buses direct to the CBD.

Property types

The suburb is filled with wide, tree lined streets and predominantly contains modern luxury houses and security apartment complexes as well as smaller blocks of art deco apartments. In both cases, the architecture is stunning and the property is amongst some of Sydney’s most expensive.

Shops and Restaurants

Double Bay is known for its quality hotels and restaurants and boutique shops selling designer brands. The main shopping and restaurant strip runs along New South Head Road and extends along surrounding streets of Knox Street, Cross Street and Bay Street. The Cosmopolitan Shopping Centre is located on Knox Street and contains more boutique shops while nearby Westfield Bondi Junction contains larger department stores such as David Jones. If you are after a view, head to Alruth seafood restaurant in Bay Street or the Redleaf Pool Café.

Schools and Educational Facilities

Double Bay Public School is the only school in the suburb and serves primary school children whilst Woollahra Preschool caters to younger children. A range of other public and private schools are within walking or short driving distance, for example Ascham School, Cranbrook School, Reddam House, Scots College, Bellevue Hill Public School and Woollahra Public School.

Recreation and other Amenities

One of Double Bay’s main draw cards is its enviable position on Sydney Harbour. To take in the view and soak up the sun, head to Murray Rose Pool which juts out from the shore and forms a miniature point, giving Double Bay its name. If you prefer running, head to the waterfront Steyne Park or along the foreshore around Darling Point. There are also gyms amongst the shops in the heart of Double Bay and football, cricket and tennis facilities at Cooper Park.

Why people live in Double Bay?

The most fashionable and expensive shopping district in Sydney containing all the most well-known brands, living among Sydney’s wealthiest, leafy streetscapes, fantastic choice of quality restaurants and easy access to the CBD via train, bus or ferry.
